About Lauren
—
When I was young, my father often recounted Aesop’s fable The Tortoise and the Hare. The slow and steady tortoise has long been a personal emblem of mine – a reminder that meaningful work is built through patience and humility. Each of my original pieces is drawn with care, curiosity and a meticulous eye.
I started drawing large-scale blooms inspired by the peonies in my mother’s garden. Each summer, I find myself captivated by the vibrant colours and the way the petals hold themselves in the wind. I never tire of watching them rustle softly while remaining firmly rooted in place, a quiet example of the strength that can exist within delicate forms. As my work expands beyond peonies, each new flower offers an opportunity to observe different colours, forms and subtleties.
During the pandemic, I discovered alcohol-based markers and have been refining my approach to using them ever since. Through layers of ink and vivid brush-tip strokes, I seek to capture the movement and individuality of each bloom.
